PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) is hosting an open house to discuss expansion ideas and goals for Palisades State Park near Garretson. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 10, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. CDT at the Legion Hall in Garretson.

Palisades State Park currently includes 34 campsites, six camping cabins, a lodge, and two miles of trails.

GFP recently acquired an additional 250 acres, doubling the size of the 167-acre park.

Possibilities for the expansion include additional campsites and trails, picnic and day use areas, canoe/kayak launches, a dog training area, an archery trail, and educational facilities.

Public comments on the Palisades expansion will be accepted through April 30.

Palisades State Park is located seven miles north and one mile west of I-90 exit 410 near Garretson, S.D.
