Prairie grizzly bears and their management by Fish, Wildlife and Parks will be the topic of a Sept. 5 public meeting in Stanford.

At the meeting Wesley Sarmento, FWP bear management specialist, will look at how the department manages grizzly bear expansion on the prairie east of the Rocky Mountain Front.

In addition, Sarmento will explain what to do during a bear encounter, how to use bear spray, how to protect harvested game meat, how to safely deter a bear using non-lethal tools, and how to secure attractants and prevent a bear from being drawn into residences.

The 7 p.m., Sept. 5, meeting will be at the Judith Basin Archers Building, next to the municipal water tower in Stanford. The meeting will be free and open to the public.
