Manulife properties in northeast Oregon will remain closed to all public access through at least the opening weekend of archery season, unfortunately, due to volatile weather in the area. Yesterday there were nearly 300 lightning strikes in NE Oregon and firefighters are working to keep fires that started contained. Closures are re-evaluated each Monday morning by Oregon Dept of Forestry, or after a major rainfall.
LA GRANDE, Ore. — All Manulife Forest Management lands in northeast Oregon will be closed to all public access beginning Aug. 23 at 12:01 a.m. due to fire danger.
The restrictions impact Manulife Forest Management properties in the Shamrock, Whiskey Cr, Noregaard, Little Catherine Cr, Meacham Travel Management Areas and any other Hancock properties enrolled in the Access and Habitat program throughout northeast Oregon.
With fire season underway, hunters and other outdoor recreationists are reminded to check for access and fire restrictions before heading out. Common restrictions are:
Smoking and off-road driving prohibited.
Vehicles are required to carry a gallon of water or fully charged 2.5 pound fire extinguisher and shovel when off state highway or county roads. ATVs must have a fire extinguisher.
Campfires are restricted or prohibited.
Private timberlands normally open may be closed to all access or have travel restrictions.
