COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) encourages the public to learn about fishing and improve their shooting skills during upcoming programs offered in the Central Region.

All programs require advanced registration and space is limited.

Upcoming programs include:

Fishing Skills: Lure Painting and Some Fishing
Thursday, May 26 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

MDC Commission Headquarters in Jefferson City

Fishing is a fun, exciting, and great way to get outdoors! And wouldn’t it be awesome if we could use our own lure to do it? Join us for an opportunity to paint your own fishing lure any color you’d like, or even paint two or three! While we let the paint dry, we will head out to the kid’s pond and spend time fishing for sunfish, bass, and catfish.

Shotgun: Women’s Shotgun
Monday, June 6 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports in Columbia

This program is designed for women and will teach them the fundamentals of shotgun shooting. This class includes equipment, safety, stance, and shooting techniques. The event will begin in the classroom, then move to the shotgun range. Shotguns and ammunition will be available, but participants may bring their own firearm and ammunition.

Fishing Event: Pond to Plate
Thursday, June 9 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Cosmo-Bethel Lake in Columbia

Come join us for an evening all about fish! Participants will do some hands-on fishing, and later head to the pavilion to learn how to clean, fillet, and fry up some fish. All attendees will then enjoy a fried fish dinner.
