Carolyn Meadows to replace Oliver North as new NRA president

The NRA has tapped Carolyn D. Meadows to be its next president, replacing outgoing President Oliver North amid unprecedented turmoil at the gun-rights organization. Mr. North abruptly announced over the weekend that he would not seek another term in the post amid a spat with Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre over the group’s finances. The NRA board of directors on Monday also unanimously reelected Mr. LaPierre to his current post as executive vice president and CEO. The board met in Indianapolis and was discussing next steps, following Mr. North’s announcement and recent scrutiny on the group’s finances. Ms. Meadows was elected to the NRA board in 2003, and in 2017 was elected to her current position as second vice president. She is also second vice chairman of the American Conservative Union, and is a past Republican National Committeewoman from Georgia.
