George H. Johnson: Defeat ignorance-based politics

Has real abuse of the 1st Amendment been taking place? The Amendment doesn't speak of outright lies and fabrications. Yet, many far-right web bloggers, oh...let's take Alex Jones and infowars.com[1] as one example Then Rush Limbaugh as another along with Trump's literally thousands of documented lies. These guys routinely spread lies and misinformation to an apparently large group of mentally challenged individuals who then react in bizarre ways. Regarding such lies and misinformation as "truth" one such "believer" invaded a pizza parlor in D,C. Edgar Welch, convinced by idiot far-right blogging, drove from North Carolina to Washington to rescue sexually abused children he believed were hidden in mysterious tunnels beneath a neighborhood pizza joint. Supposedly, they were held there by a Hillary Clinton cabal of child molesters. He went into the pizzeria and fired a weapon. He was subsequently sentenced to four years. The whole thing was a bizarre fabrication. After his election, Trump reportedly called Alex Jones to thank him. Jones is the lunatic who attempted to present the Sandy Hook massacre of children as a fake exercise designed to discredit the 2nd Amendment and the NRA. We are dealing with some seriously mentally ill people here...Trump included. If you value life based on rational, realistic, factually derived information then work now and work hard to defeat the ignorance based political process of the right-wing...yes, the Republican party. Uneducated people fueled by bigotry and ignorance while led by psychopaths like Trump are the enemy of a rational, functional Democracy. Get involved and do whatever you can.
