The community of Noblesville is not yet healed enough from a school shooting to hear from the National Rifle Association president, said the city's Mayor John Ditslear. 

Ditslear made the comment Sunday morning in response to learning the NRA president Oliver North had been scheduled to speak in Noblesville on Sunday. The Indiana GOP said North dropped out of the rally which is scheduled to take place with other speakers just miles from where a student opened fire in a classroom in May.

"I would not have added the NRA," said Ditslear, who noted he is pro-2nd amendment. 

North dropped out of a GOP rally due to a scheduling conflict, according to an Indiana GOP press release sent early Sunday morning.

Republican Senate candidate M.ike Braun is scheduled to appear at the event, along with Gov. Eric Holcomb, Secretary of State Connie Lawson and other statewide  GOP candidates. 

The event is one of several Republican rallies being held throughout the state on Sunday. It is scheduled to be at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds, which is just miles away from Noblesville West Middle School, where the shooting took place.

Indiana GOP was promoting North as a speaker as recently as Saturday night, according to a screenshot of the party's twitter account[1]. That tweet has since been removed.
