This past week, we saw our city make progress while our country went backward on common sense around guns. The mayor of Seattle signed two strong laws requiring Seattle gun owners to store their guns safely or face fines if someone not permitted to have a gun gets access and causes harm to themselves or others.

Meanwhile, like something out of a bad spy novel, a Russian woman who had infiltrated the NRA[1] was indicted on a charge of conspiracy as a foreign agent. And now the NRA and Second Amendment Foundation have sued Seattle to prevent safe storage[2].

People in America have had enough. Across Washington, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is organizing. Already, 100 Washington candidates for the state Legislature and U.S. Congress have received the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Distinction, committing to common sense gun laws that do not curb Second Amendment rights.

We need more of what Seattle leaders delivered last week, and less of the NRA and Russia blocking common-sense gun laws that save lives.
