HOUSTON - President Donald Trump arrived in Houston on Thursday, where he met with the families of the Santa Fe High School massacre victims before heading to a Republican fundraiser.
Air Force One landed at Ellington Field just before 11 a.m. The president waved and pumped his fist to people gathered at the base.

He was initially scheduled to attend the fundraiser at the St. Regis hotel in the Galleria area, but added a meeting with families of the victims of the Santa Fe High School shooting at the Coast Guard station at Ellington to "personally offer his condolences and support,” according to the White House.
Trump’s visit comes nearly two weeks after the May 18 shooting at the school that killed 10 people and injured 13 others. A gunman’s half-hour rampage killed eight students and two teachers.
The president's visit also comes a day after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott laid out his plan to protect schools in the state[2].
The governor’s 40 recommendations include increasing law enforcement, arming more teachers and additional active shooter training.
Abbott emphasized it would be at no cost to schools.

Trump was last in Texas for the NRA’s Convention in Dallas on May 4. During his keynote address, he called NRA members, “patriots.”
"We will never fail and we will always protect your second amendment,” he said at the NRA Annual Convention.
More than two months before, Trump met with the survivors of the Parkland school shooting promising stricter gun laws.
"We've got to stop this nonsense. It's time,” he said.
