Colt McBee (Brady, Texas) has faced 125 targets the past two days and has yet to miss, giving him the lead in the men’s skeet competition at the halfway point of the USA Shooting Shotgun Fall Selection, 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Kerrville, Texas.
After hitting all 75 targets on Wednesday at the Hill Country Shooting Sports Center, McBee calmly took down another 50 targets on Thursday for the only perfect score in the competition. But he’s hardly running away from the rest of the field as hot on his heels with just one miss apiece are three-time Olympian and two-time Olympic gold medalist Vincent Hancock (Fort Worth, Texas) and Dustan Taylor (Liberty, N.C.). Both shot perfect rounds on Thursday, as did Phillip Jungman (Caldwell, Texas) who sits two shots back of McBee in fourth place.
Nic Moschetti (Broomfield, Colo.), who had a perfect round on Wednesday to tie McBee for the opening day lead, hit 46 of 50 targets on Thursday to drop back to eighth place.
In the women’s skeet competition, Dania Vizzi (Odessa, Fla.) was the only shooter to hit all 50 targets on Thursday, moving her into a two-way tie atop the leaderboard with Samantha Simonton (Gainesville, Ga.). Both shooters have hit 122 of the 125 targets faced through the first two days, giving them a three-shot advantage over the rest of the women’s field. Austen Smith (Keller, Texas) and Amber English (Colorado Springs, Colo.) of the Army Marksmanship Unit are tied for third place with 119 points, one point ahead of Caitlin Conner (Winnfield, La.) and six-time Olympic medalist Kim Rhode (Monrovia, Calif.).
