LIMA, Peru (August 26, 2019)

Kevin Nguyen (Westminster, Calif.) and Mike Tagliapietra (Fond du Lac, Wis.) medaled for the second consecutive day on Monday, swapping the color of their medals from the previous day as the shooting competition at the 2019 Parapan American Games reached the three-quarters mark in Lima, Peru.

A day after claiming bronze in the mixed 10m air rifle prone SH1, Nguyen took the gold in the mixed 50m rifle prone SH1 final by defeating Brazil’s Carlos Garletti, 244.2 to 240.4. Nguyen’s teammate Nick Beach (Dresden, Ohio) won the bronze medal while John Joss (Corsicana, Texas), who had the top score in the qualification round, finished just off the podium in fourth.

The seventh medal of the event for the U.S. team was won later in the day by Tagliapietra as he earned the bronze medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 a day after winning gold in the mixed 25m sport pistol SH1. Tagliapietra finished behind a pair of Brazilian shooters – gold medalist Geraldo Rosenthal and silver medalist Adriano Sergio. Other Americans competing in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 were Aaron Causey (Riverside, Ala.) who placed sixth and Marco De La Rosa (San Antonio, Texas) who finished seventh.
