PIERRE, S.D. – The 42nd annual Fort Sisseton Historical Festival presented visitors with a weekend full of activities, vendors, food and memories. Holding to tradition, the public came out to experience the variety the event offers.

Just over 9,000 visitors took in the three-day event. Uncharacteristically warm, sunny weather was a welcomed break from some of the traditional weather patterns of the last 42 years, according to Fort Sisseton manager Ali Tonsfeldt.

The $2 billion continental campaign was launched seven years ago and will go down as one of the largest conservation campaigns in history.

North Dakota Game and Fish Department fisheries personnel recently tagged approximately 3,000 walleyes in Lake Sakakawea – 1,000 each in the upper, middle and lower regions of the lake.

Managers plan to continue tagging 3,000 walleye from Lake Sakakawea each year through 2022. This four-year study is aimed to help fisheries biologists assess walleye harvest by size, natural mortality, angling mortality and movements.
