But NRATV has been a cesspool of hate and outlandish claims since the beginning. Launched in late 2016 as a rebranding of NRA News, which debuted in 2004, NRATV serves as the often-inflammatory propaganda arm of the National Rifle Association and, as of late, President Donald Trump as well. In September, NRA spokesperson and NRATV host Dana Loesch showed an image of Thomas & Friends characters wearing Ku Klux Klan hoods during a broadcast. NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre was “livid and embarrassed,” according to the Times’ new report. It quotes NRA board members and Florida lobbyist Marion Hammer saying that since then, she and others on the board “have questioned the value of” NRATV -- though Hammer herself previously appeared on NRA News to make an embarrassing comparison between assault weapons bans and racial discrimination.
